Introduces foundational theory required for entry into the nail technology profession. Topics include infection prevention and control, microbiology, sanitation and disinfection procedures, anatomy and physiology of the skin and nails, common nail disorders and diseases, and professional ethics. Students study Washington State laws and regulations (RCW/WAC), workplace safety, chemical safety, ergonomics, and professional standards required for state licensure and salon employment.
Outcomes
- Explain principles of infection control, sanitation, disinfection, and sterilization as applied in nail technology settings.
- Identify the anatomy and physiology of the skin, nail structure, and related body systems relevant to nail services.
- Recognize common nail disorders and diseases and determine when referral to a medical professional is appropriate.
- Apply Washington State RCW/WAC regulations, safety standards, and professional ethics in salon and clinical settings.
- Demonstrate knowledge of workplace safety procedures, including chemical safety, ergonomics, and hazard communication.
