This introductory course provides a foundational understanding of the key principles and skills necessary for working in a correctional environment. Students will explore essential concepts such as command presence, basic defensive tactics, and the use of force within a correctional context. The course covers fundamental facility security procedures, including emergency response and inmate management strategies. Emphasis is placed on effective communication with inmates, understanding their behavior, and maintaining professional boundaries. Additional topics include basic legal and ethical considerations, health and safety protocols, and an overview of the tools and technology used in correctional settings. This course is designed to equip students with the core knowledge and skills needed to start a career in corrections.
