Students will participate in an unpaid, supervised practicum of at least 180 contact hours in an ambulatory healthcare setting, demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and behaviors of the MAERB Core Curriculum in performing clinical and administrative duties. This course must be successfully completed prior to graduation from the CMA program.
Outcomes
- Identify the purpose of a practicum and how the student benefits from the experience
- Explore externship sites and successfully complete 180 hours of hands-on experience utilizing newly acquired medical assistant administrative and clinical skills
- Model professionalism, integrity, dependability and initiative in the medical work environment while having positive interactions with other medical professionals
- Function in a clinic, medical center, or other health care facility, practicing administrative and clinical medical office skills and responsibilities as observed by the instructor and/or preceptor
