This class is 60 planned hours and aims to prepare students for a career in substance use disorder treatment services. It covers topics including understanding substance use disorder, pharmacological actions of alcohol and other drugs, substance misuse and substance use disorder treatment methods, and addresses transdisciplinary foundations established by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse Treatment’s (CSAT) Addiction Counseling Competencies (TAP 21). Students completing this course will become familiar with medical and pharmacological resources. This class is also relevant to many fields of study from social services to criminal justice and the medical field.
