This class is 60 planned hours and aims to prepare students for a career in substance use disorder treatment services. This class covers topics including describing, selecting and appropriately using strategies from accepted and culturally appropriate models for group counseling and addresses transdisciplinary foundations established by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse Treatment’s (CSAT) Addiction Counseling Competencies (TAP 21). Students will gain knowledge of group processes and practices in group counseling. Students will be introduced to different types of groups and understand how theory guides practices.
