SHME 107: Applied Math

Subject
Sheet Metal Technology
Credits 5
Instructional Mode
Web-enhanced
Students are introduced to and develop the skills to understand and solve mathematical problems that have direct application to the fabrication and cost estimation of sheet metal components. These assignments include the foundational principles of basic mathematics with equations involving fractions, decimals, percentages, practical geometry construction and trigonometry
Outcomes
  • Solve problems containing fractions and decimals applied to sheet metal measurements
  • Apply linear measurement and geometric principles to sheet metal layout and fabrication problems
  • Solve equations and ratio/proportion problems as applied to sheet metal dimensions and material requirements
  • Calculate perimeter and area of geometric shapes used in sheet metal layout and duct sizing
  • Calculate volume and apply special measurement formulas to sheet metal fabrication problems
  • Apply trigonometric functions to solve angle, offset, and fitting dimension problems
