This course surveys various prominent political, social, cultural, and economic events in the United States during the 19th century. Prominent themes include American industrialization, westward expansion, slavery, the American Civil War, Reconstruction, the Jim Crow South, immigration, the Gilded Age, and U.S. involvement in foreign affairs.
